The following activities were developed and used by a group of teachers who believe that schools should give their students opportunities to observe and react to those environments found beyond the classroom.
It is felt that such interaction does not have to be of a specialist nature. Students and teachers with little previous experience can easily use the out- doors to strengthen concepts dealt with in class. Opportunities for learning by doing which involve children in observing, collecting, categorizing and evaluating are available in a study of the outdoor environment. The outdoor environment provides further opportunities to build awareness and understanding of our relationship to that environment. It is felt that although we cannot directly teach concern for the environment students can be provided with experiences that will help them develop their own personal reactions to their environment.
